The Roads of Cinema - Itineraries

Nine cities found on this route from Catania to the Eolie Islands, stopping at Aci Trezza and Taormina, walking on the "Silvestri Craters" of Etna and then heading for Savoca and Messina, crossing more than sixty years of cinematic history. Nine stages inaugurating The Roads of Cinema (Strade del cinema), the new project that the Sicilia Regional Tourism Department, through the Special Office for Cinema and Audiovisual, wants to devote to the discovery and exploitation of sites and territories that cinema and television have been able to read before and then tell. This ideal itinerary we present is therefore to be understood as the first stage of a journey through the time and the gaze of the many directors who have given Sicily the role of the absolute protagonist of their imagination and their narratives.

The "Sicilia Film Commission" is a public agency that operates under the form of "Special Office for Film and Audiovisuals" within the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Cultural Activities of Sicily. Estabilished in 2007, it promotes the Sicilian territory as an outstanding location for audiovisual productions, and supports the development of the local film industry and its professional resources. Through the annual publication of public calls (also in the scope of the programme "Sensi Contemporanei"), and providing support and free advice, the "Sicilia Film Commission" backs productions that choose the Island as the ideal set for their shooting. The digitisation of Sicilian cinemas and the support to the network of the Sicilian film festivals are guaranteed by special dedicated funds. The "Sicilia Film Commission" also encourages the professional growth of young filmmakers through the Sicily-based Documentary Film Department of "Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia" (Italian National Film School) and pays attention to the new audiovisual forms through public calls addressed to the production of web-series and experimental short films.
